I agree. I have been uplifted recently by a tour of New Zealand I’m on. And the reason? Because I’m a Rotarian, often staying with Rotarians. I’m learning about the projects they work on in their communities and further afield, and benefitting from their exceptional generosity in opening up their homes to strangers. I have learnt a lot more about what’s going on in the world - and it’s been much better than the ‘news’!
Yes to this and for doing our own seeing (as in your project for art class). Letting mass media define our world has never been a good idea, as you observe.
