You explained so beautifully (and compellingly!) why you and your family have returned to the same vacation spot year after year. There are any number of special places I dream of visiting again, but the call of the unexplored calls me more urgently every time. And - I've never been disappointed. Bottom line, we are so fortunate to be able to spend time away. No matter how near or far, I think a change of scenery is a precious rejuvenation.
Really enjoyed your drawing and commentary about the octopus. I feel I already knew [choose a pronoun for me] the octopus perhaps when I was a previous life form [had gills] or at a gallery opening on a Tuesday in Manhattan in my long ago youth. Octopus is the saber of tomorrow’s rainbow and a very smooth operator if you’re asking me. Love your inventiveness.
Feels like I’m there as you write in your sketch book…I have to zoom in a bit! 😅I love the beach… but these little moments of your days, your feelings, you’re rememberies jotted down and drawn… priceless! And the grabber for me! Keep
enjoying! Thank you for brightening my day and pushing me to get back to the sea! 🥰😊🫶💕
Two places that feel like mine: Rochester, NY and its surrounding area, and Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, with its Wayfarers Chapel and ocean overlook. I hope to revisit both.
Marblehead, Massachusetts remained home for nearly 50 years after living there in my teenage years. Now, with family in Maine, it has become the place I dream of, long for, and delight in!
Avon, NC is our spot - we don't go every year as we also like to explore new places, but we keep returning and when we do there's such comfort in the familiar routine.
"But here we come to gather together, the “us” we are today as well as everyone we used to be, used to know, used to love and still do." Beautiful...... brought tears to my eyes. At my age, there is a lot of searching through time, separating memories to "keep these"... "get rid of that one".... but the transitory, wrapped around whirls of memory and place and faces... who we used to be this minute and that............. thank you for those words.
Words and art both lovely, Karen. Makes me miss the ocean! I trust you have read the novel about an octopus,Remarkably Bright Creatures. It's a joy.
Judy, I am reading it now!
I thought of Remarkably Bright Creatures, too!

The tension between exploring the new and basking in tradition is strong in our house.
