Thank you, Karen, for so clearly stating the issue and its solution! My mother, a Depression-era baby, was always pushing food on us and any of our relatives or friends who came by. Much of it was sugar-laden, especially this time of year. I still eat sugar, but I don't pick up a cookie every time I walk through the dining room and see a platter of cookies, which she always had ready. It's hard for me not to offer food and drink to guests, but at least I don't push it. Holidays without overeating? Totally radical!
I appreciate learning what our friends do and do not eat before I make food for them, so I prefer it if they TELL ME. No judgment. We changed how and what we eat. It didn't happen overnight, and we had to learn how to cook differently, but our brains may have sparked some new synapses. I am interested in why people don't eat different things because it's interesting! Our neighbor, when I brought him a bag of cherries from our tree, told me that he is allergic, but his girlfriend isn't—duly noted.
Yes, stop with the panic over diets. Google is your friend, and remember that Chinese babies eat Chinese food. Yours can, too.
John, thank you. And I relate to the guilt feelings around making others work harder.
Hugs. Just hugs for this wonderful and caring piece, Karen. Thank you.
Thank you, Bunny. <3
Love this! I have some of each of the eating types as friends. Hosting is bewildering! So is trying to feed and myself “right!”
Brilliant! Everyone calm down!
Thanks so much. I love your writing as well as the message.
